Authorize.net payment gateway is down on July 3, 2009, as the result of a fire at their primary datacenter in Seattle.  Authorize.net is working on restoring service and re-routing all credit card processing to their secondary location.  If your store utilizes Authorize.net for its payment gateway and you are unable to process transactions, the best quick-fix is to enable Simple Credit Card Validation so your store can at least capture new orders (you will need to process them manually later in Authorize.net).  Don't forget to disable Authorize.net when you enable Simple CC Validation, so that credit card options are only listed once during checkout in your store.
